Volunteer Spotlight: Alex
By Gina Weare
July 12, 2018
I’m super excited to introduce Alex this week! She’s spending a lot of her summer break serving in some much-needed ways at Grace. Not only is she volunteering in her ‘usual’ Children’s Ministry and Coffee Ministry capacities, she has also been diving in with a group of others who are finishing up our Children’s Ministry Curriculum for the fall. (It’s crazy awesome and the best one yet- I can’t wait for everyone to see the final version of it. To God be the glory!) She’s a joy to serve with- make sure to introduce yourself to her if you haven’t already.

Meet Alex!

Tell us about yourself!
I really enjoy experimental cooking (especially with cinnamon, which is my new favorite spice). I’ve also recently learned to enjoy music and going on walks/runs (especially by rivers…through parks and trails…on back roads.)

What’s something you love about Grace?

The first thing that drew me to Grace was the prayer meetings. I love that we have them every day, and they’ve allowed me to get to know so many people in our body.
“I’ve seen how serving strengthens my own heart.”

Where do you serve at church?

Twelve17 Barista, Five6 Children’s Ministry, and Moms in Ministry.

What do you love about volunteering with the Twelve17 Coffee Roasters ministry?

Whip cream art! I love creating our specialty drinks, topping them with the whip cream (and other toppings), and serving them to our guests… and hearing their reaction as you bring it out to them. I also love the feeling of helping someone choose just what they’re looking for when they really can’t decide.

Why do you serve?
I started serving because I knew it was a “good thing to do” to grow in my faith and to get to know others in the Body (and it is!). More recently, though, I’ve seen how serving strengthens my own heart. This season has been a new one where I feel that I’ve actually become closer to God in the work – to see how he has gifted me and to sense that he actually wants to use me in five6 and on the coffee team. This hasn’t always been the case, but it started by just taking a step (and many more after that) to just serve and to keep going. Over the years, God has refined my heart and has blessed me (and I trust others through me!) as I’ve tried to learn and grow.
