A Church Under Construction

In need of more space for our expanding ministry, in 2009 Grace Church acquired the Embers Restaurant building, a historic Mt. Pleasant landmark for fifty years. The address of our building is 1217 Mission Street, thus, we gave the name "Mission 1217" to the overall project of renovating this property. Over the last six years, we have demolished and rebuilt entire portions of the building, reconstructed stairwells, completely remodeled the lower floor, and created unique seating areas for use by Twelve17 Coffee Roasters and our weekly ministry needs. In the next season of ministry, we will complete the renovation of Mission 1217:  the main gathering area for our weekend services.

Join us in the work on Thursday evenings from 6-9pm and Saturday mornings from 7:30am-12pm. Just fill out our contact form.

Koefoed Kitchen

We have just completed renovating one of the few remaining spaces within the the old Ember's Restaurant building: The transformation of the Ember's bakery into a fully functional kitchen now allows us to prepare a variety of soups, sandwiches and baked goods to serve with our coffee and tea. We have dedicated this space to the memory of Scott and Sally Koefoed.

Check out the recap video!

The Koefoed Kitchen provides essential space for preparing meals for various church gatherings and meetings, wedding receptions, and small groups, as well as for outreach-oriented events such as the Chinese New Year. It also equips our Twelve17 Coffee Ministry for future expansion of our menu and services.

Main Auditorium

The last significant step in our building renovation project will be to transform the old main dining room space into a worship auditorium.

This project will include replacing the roof, along with required replacement of HVAC, electrical, insulation and other essential needs...with some exciting options of other creative and inspiring things we can do.

Koefoed Campus Connection

In memory of Scott and Sally Koefoed, two founding members of Grace Church who devoted their lives to campus ministry, it is our desire to transform the front of our building into a more welcoming space. In addition to the planting of new trees, shrubs, and flowers, we are planning the construction of a deck as an additional access point to our church and our coffee shop ministry. Beyond creating a comfortable space to meet with people and share the love of Christ (as Scott and Sally often did), this project will also include an update to the layout of our signs as well as the much needed installation of bike racks! See what this space is like by watching this video.

We have already installed the new sign trusses and banners. We plan to implement the other aspects of the project during more extensive future renovations to the front facade of our property within the next couple of years.
