Bible Reading Checklists

Here a few links to some Bible Reading Checklists. These PDFs can be printed, folded in half, and kept inside of your Bible. If you're going to begin reading through the Bible in a more flexible order/format, these checklists can help you keep track of what you've read and what you haven't!

New Testament in a Year

This plan will take you through the New Testament in a year. It's called the 5 x 5 x 5 plan because it takes about 5 minutes a day and it's set up for 5 days of reading each week. The PDF also includes 5 ideas for engaging with the text as you read.

The links below will guide you through the entire Bible (Old and New Testament). Generally speaking, you will need to read about 4 chapters a day to get through the Bible in a year. If you spread it over two years, it's about two chapters a day.

M'Cheyne + D.A. Carson Reading Plan

Robert Murray M’Cheyne was a Scottish minister in the early 1800's. He developed a well-know reading plan that will take you through the New Testament and Psalms twice and the Old Testament once. There is a One-Year and Two-Year Version of the plan. You read four chapters a day on the One-Year plan and two chapters a day on the Two-Year plan. D.A. Carson slightly modified this reading plan and published it in two volumes, along with his comments regarding each day’s scriptural passages. The links for those resources are also included below. Click here to learn a little more about this plan.

Ben Coffman, one of our Elders and the Prayer Meeting Teacher on Saturday mornings, has been working through this plan and D.A. Carson's companion guide and he's found it very helpful.

Encountering Jesus

We've been talking on Sundays about growing in our relationship with God. If you want to encounter Jesus in a personal way as you begin the new year, these reading plans may be just what you're looking for. The links below provide offer some different options to focus your Bible reading on the life of Jesus in the Gospels. Most of these plans will point you to important texts about Jesus. If you want to start in Matthew and read straight through all 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), check out the The Daily Gospel Reading Plan.

Some Other Helpful Resources

Below are some links to some other resources that may be helpful as you consider your Bible Reading in 2018. A few of the links are to Bibles that some folks at Grace have found helpful (though there are many, many great options out there!) and the other links are to supporting materials that may help you go deeper in your study of the Bible in the coming year. The Chronological Bibles reorganize the original text so that it is printed in the order that the events happened historically.
